How do I start a piano class with MSM (Main Stem Music)?
You can start by contacting one of our representatives by email (cm@mainstemmusic.com) or phone (425-830-4500). We will be happy to discuss the details for starting the class.
When do you teach the piano classes?
The piano classes are taught on a weekly basis. Usually, they are taught afterschool, but before-school, and during-school options are available. We teach Monday-Friday, on regular school days.
What accommodations do you require for a class?
It depends on the number of students enrolled in the class. We need enough tabletop (desks/tables/platforms) to hold pianos for each student and a space big enough to fit everyone. MSM is completely portable and we bring our own pianos, books, sheet music, and other teaching supplies with us. We usually teach in multi-purpose rooms, gyms, libraries, and classrooms.
How long do the classes run?
The classes typically run in 8 week sessions- although we are very flexible and have run sessions as short as 5 weeks, and as long as 10 weeks with pro-rated tuition. Each class is an hour in length and usually requires 10-15min set up and tear-down, before and after the class.
What happens after the completion of an 8 week session?
Music is a lifetime endeavor; we would love to continue teaching at your school. Once a student has completed an 8 week session, and then they are welcome to continue though another session. They will be able to progress through our book series by learning new songs and musical concepts.
Do you offer any performance opportunities for students?
We typically reserve the last class in the session for a recital. All students are encouraged to perform their song(s) for family and friends. Our philosophy is that music should not be kept in the ‘practice room’, but should be shared with others!
Are your teachers qualified?
Each one of our teachers has a passion for music and is eager to share it with a student. MSM runs background checks on all staff members for safety measures. All teachers are required to demonstrate proficiency on the piano and are trained to teach our developed curriculum.
What curriculum do you use?
MSM has developed a series of books over the years to compliment our teaching. We focus on teaching popular children’s songs. Children love to play songs they have heard before and are motivated to practice more!
How do you collect tuition?
Generally, tuition payment is dropped off at the school office by the parent who wishes to enroll their student in the class. At the start of the piano class, a MSM representative (usually lead instructor) will pick up registration forms and tuition. Parents are also welcome to mail tuition and registration forms. Tuition must be paid within the first two weeks of the class starting date; otherwise the student will be dropped from the class. We accept cash and check payments.
What is included in the tuition?
8 weeks of piano classes (a one hour class per week) is included in the tuition. Students also receive a music book and sheet music. Pianos, headphones, and other teaching materials are provided by MSM.
How do parents register their child for piano class?
Parents can obtain our registration form from our website (www.mainstemmusic.com), school website, PTSA, school office, or from their teachers. Registration is fast and easy! They will need to complete a form and turn it in to the office or mail it to MSM.
